Sub-Aqua Guiding…

index

Earlier in the year we took our Guides Scuba Diving.

For me, Guiding is about trying new things, especially  activities that girls wouldn’t normally get the chance to try.  My son learned to dive with Durham City Scuba and dives with them when he is home  from University.  In March this year we decided to offer an evening of Scuba Diving to the girls.

I can thoroughly recommend Durham City Scuba  (DCS).  Paul Smith who runs DCS is a PADI dive master and instructor with many years experience, and has built a very safe and reputable environment to try out the sport. With a team of qualified divers, and a ratio of 1 qualified diver to 2 guides plus extra divers as backup, we had a wonderful evening of fun where the instructors taught the girls the basics of diving.

CM and I had a Trial Dive several months beforehand, so we knew what to expect, and what the girls would experience on their dives.  We had such a great evening we came to the conclusion that the girls would enjoy it just as  much as we had!  AND… they did!  The Trial Dive was £15 per person and held in a safe swimming pool environment.

As leaders we kept to the poolside all evening.  There was a period of about 40 minutes where ALL the girls were under the water and we didn’t see a head break the surface!  It was a very long evening, and we didn’t get back to Darlington until much later than predicted, but it was a superb evening activity which the girls really enjoyed.

Would we do it again?  YES!!  In fact the girls have asked us to arrange another session next year.  Would we recommend it for Guides?  YES!  it is a wonderful introduction to the sport.

Thanks to Paul at Durham City Scuba for organising such a brilliant evening.
